Aesthetics: Is it Important or Overrated?

Let's first define aesthetics, according to Google:

aes·thet·ics

esˈTHediks/

noun

  1. a set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty, especially in art.

    • the branch of philosophy dealing with such notions as the beautiful, the ugly, the sublime, the comic, etc., as applicable to the fine arts, with a view to establishing the meaning and validity of critical judgments concerning works of art, and the principles underlying or justifying such judgments.

So the above is a fact, however, many have different opinions, views and value on thee above. Demographically speaking, the word 'aesthetics' has become very popular when speaking about Instagram and personal style, to be specific. Most people think about how their pages are set out, the color schemes, the quality of images, consistency in their style and the list goes on.

So is aesthetics important? Yes, because aesthetics is relative and there is not a right or wrong depiction of it. It's a reflection of art: our perspectives and artistic taste varies.

Is the word 'aesthetics' overrated? Not entirely. Some people may have recently discovered it's value and finally able to give a name to the reflection of how they feel. It's a timeless form of expression. Some may not truly understand the meaning of 'aesthetics' and are following the lead of their peers but most great things are acquired over time, right?

Aesthetics are reflected in your home decor, personal style & wardrobe, social media post and within your lifestyle. Just remember to stay true to who YOU are yet always be student of knowledge so that you can be a teacher of wisdom.
